If you’re native of DC or a visitor, there are many, many places to eat. I have a whole list of spots that I could suggest. For instance if you’re ever around U Street, NW or in Forestville, Maryland and you just want some good carryout I suggest either Yums, maybe Danny’s or for a bangin chili dog check out Ben’s Chili Bowl.
*Ahem* *laughs* but back to the subject at hand.
Hip hop is becoming a broader spectrum every day in the DMV area and these two gentlemen are clearly going above and beyond that. Producer/emcee, Awthentik and Violet Says 5 along with front man Ethan Spalding created an album that whets any hip hop head’s appetite for more of what we need. Hence the title of their upcoming album Beef & Broccoli, come with me as I pick their brains about how they cooked up such an awesome creation after performing at the infamous Up and Up Open Mic.
iHEARTDilla: So have you guys worked together before?
Awthentik: Yea we worked on a collab with my first solo and actually on my album Foreclosure LP and on Public Progamming: The Fif album. He was on the track called I Got A Thang, it’s like two tracks we have lingering around that we had already done some stuff with. They worked basically the same way Beef & Broccoli worked. We just vibed.
Ethan: And the tracks that we did for Champagne, Weed, & Bubblegum which is my mixtape series. We also used that for Beef & Broccoli too.
iHEARTDilla: That’s what’s up, yea I could hear how well you both collaborated on each track. So Ethan you said that the album was a mixing of styles…mixing tree… *laughs* Can you elaborate a little bit on that?
Ethan: Yea I mean it’s like a beef & broccoli blunt and we eatin, just out here grindin. We tryin to get it.
iHEARTDilla: Cool, indeed have to stay on that grind. Could you please let folks know where we can hear you and Ethan’s music…any new tracks droppin?
Awthentik: When the album does drop we’ll probably set up a specific site for it. Right now we’re just kind of marketing the single Repeat Button featuring Jayne Kennedi. And we’re pushing the track Beat The Cat and we have another one that’s about to come out this Tuesday on 2/28 with PhiladaFuture.
Ethan: You can check out Violet Says 5 on Youtube, aw man…on everything. Facebook, Twitter, all that…it’s violet like the color, says s-a-y-s and the number 5. We have a panda [mascot] and Awthentik actually just started our latest video that’s coming out because of the whole Beef & Broccoli thing and it’s called Paperchase. It’ll be Awthentik’s acting debut on this. *laughs*
Awthentik: That joint is sick. *laughs*
